A portion of KY 840 in Harlan County at mile points 2.6 – 2.8 … at the junction of U.S. 119… will be closed beginning today, and will remain closed through this Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. The road closure is necessary to allow contractors to perform roadway repairs. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet asks motorists to be aware of the work zone, expect long delays, and to utilize safe driving habits when traveling through the area. The schedule may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan, was investigating a missing person in Bell County over the weekend. 43 year old Robert L Caldwel of Kettle Island, was last seen at the Daniel Boone Motel in Middlesboro on August 12th at approximately 7:00 p.m. Mr. Caldwell is a white male, 5”10, and 225 pounds. He has brown hair, brown eyes, tattoo of a tiger on his upper arm and a scar on top of his head. Anyone with information should contact Post 10 Harlan at 606-573-3131.
A two vehicle crash on US 25 south of London near Lily sent at least one person to an area hospital for treatment. Deputies say a Sonoma pickup traveling north attempted to make a left turn, when it collided with a southbound Toyota. The driver of the pickup… 58 year old Gary Long of Corbin, was taken to St. Joseph Hospital London for treatment. The driver of the Toyota… 47 year old Shannon Sams… also of Corbin… was not hurt. The crash remains under investigation, and so far, no word on whether charges are being filed.

A safety check on U.S.25 E in the Middlesboro community of Bell County resulted in an arrest. 31 year old Jerry Marlow of Tennessee… driving an Olds Cutlass…. was unable to provide a valid license or proof of insurance. While talking with him, troopers saw a handgun tucked between the driver’s side seat and console. Marlow gave troopers a false name, because as it was quickly learned, he had an active warrant out for his arrest. Further investigation turned up a box… hidden in the floor board… containing crystal meth, a digital scale, marijuana, and a large amount of cash. Marlow is now behind bars in the Bell County Detention Center.

What started out as a good day turned into a bad one for a real estate agent. 22-year-old Kayla Seloff sold a house and the deal had just closed, but she decided to return to the home with 27-year-old Joshua Leal for a little fun. A neighbor saw suspicious activity in the house, and called the cops. Police responded and found Kayla and Joshua on the floor, as the cops wrote in their report, in a “passionate rendezvous.” When police escorted them to Kayla’s car to get IDs, cops smelled marijuana and then found pot and a glass pipe, which Kayla confessed was hers. The new homeowner decided to press charges since the lovers didn’t have permission to be there. Kayla and Josh were charged with criminal trespass.
A third person was charged on Wednesday in connection with the robbery and shooting of Trey Hedrick which occurred off Taylor Bridge Road London back in June. A 17-year-old male was arrested in Lexington and transported back to Laurel County on Wednesday. He’s now in custody in a juvenile detention facility, and charged with Attempted Murder, Robbery , Theft by Unlawful Taking, and Tampering with Physical Evidence. He joins 19 year old Deontae Williams of Lexington, and a 16-year- old female juvenile from London who are also charged in the same case.
A London woman was arrested on Wednesday in connection with a theft involving firearms. 32 year old Jennifer Gray allegedly pawned some of the guns in several different counties, along with five personal checks that were stolen, forged, and cashed. The victim in this case, was Gray’s boyfriend… with whom she was living. Gray was charged with theft by unlawful taking and forgery… and then locked up in the Laurel
County detention Center.
